ECPrint
Emmanuel provides EC Print, a campus-wide printing and imaging solution that is available to all students, staff, and faculty.
EC Print stations are located in all buildings on campus, with 35 available to staff and faculty, and 23 available to students. Users can submit jobs easily from the Web Print interface, which they can then release and print from any station simply by tapping their Emmanuel ID. All printers offer black-and-white printing, copying, and scan-to-email functionality, while select stations offer faxing and color printing.
Each student is given $35 per semester with which to print, free of charge. Printing costs $0.04 per black-and-white page and $0.25 per color page.

1. What is Web Print and is that the only way to print?
Web Print is the web-based tool for students to see their current quota balance, print history, and upload documents to be printed from any computer. To access Web Print, go to https://ecprint.emmanuel.edu.
No, Web Print is not the only way to print. Students can submit print jobs from public computers by using the computer’s built-in print function, then selecting the EC Print option in the list of printers. Staff and faculty can follow these same steps from their Emmanuel-issued laptops. You would then release your print jobs in the same fashion as printing from Web Print.
2. What is the quota and when is it reset?
The quota given to Emmanuel students is $35 and is reset to this amount at the beginning of each semester. It is important to note that this is not "real" money, but instead a credit. This money does not exist anywhere, nor can it be refunded for real cash.
3. What happens when my quota reaches $0?
Once a student has exhausted the $35 print quota, print costs will then be pulled in $1.00 increments from your Fenway Cash on your Fenway Card. Adding money to your Fenway Cash is no different for print than for purchasing other items. If the quota has been exhausted and there is no Fenway Cash available, the print device will display an error until funding is added.
4. I work on campus or am part of a student organization on campus. How will I print without using my personal quota?
Students that work for an on-campus department or are part of a student organization and have associated print responsibilities can get an increase in their print quota. To get this increase, the supervisor or club advisor for that student must submit a print quota increase request using our form.
Once approved, this increase is only active for the requested semester. A new request must be submitted for each semester as necessary.
5. Does my quota get charged for scanning or faxing?
No. Scanning and faxing are free services. The only services that are charged to your quota are printing and copying.
6. Can I print double sided and what are the costs in comparison to single sided?
Yes. All student print devices can print double sided. Double sided printing is provided at a 15% discount per side.
7. If I don't have my ID with me, can I still use the print devices?
Yes. Although tapping your ID is the most convenient method of accessing the devices, you can also manually enter your Emmanuel username and password on the front touch panel.
8. Can I get a refund for something I printed?
Should you experience an issue with your print job, you can complete the "Refund Request" form on the Web Print website (https://ecprint.emmanuel.edu). Once in the EC Print site, go to "Recent Print Jobs" and select the "Request Refund" for the associated print. Reprints will not be provided for prints made by mistake, blank pages or for materials such as web pages that are difficult to read, do not contain the information you want or have large areas of blank space. If the refund is approved, the value will be returned to your account.
9. I printed something, but don't need it anymore. What should I do and am I charged?
Prints that are not released are deleted from your queue after 24 hours, so you don't have to do anything. You could also go to a print device and choose to "Cancel" a print from your queue. You are not charged for these prints, as only prints that are released from a print device incur a charge.
10. How can I save money on printing?
Here are some tips on how to maximize your print quota:
- Release only the documents you need
Proofread your work before printing to avoid having to re-print - Select double-sided printing whenever possible
11. Can I print from off campus or from Notre Dame campus?
You can print normally from Notre Dame campus. However, EC Print is not available if you are not present on the main campus or on Notre Dame campus.
12. What are the limitations between using Web Print and printing from an Emmanuel computer (Dorm lobby, Library, etc.)
When printing using Web Print, only certain file types can be printed. These file types are word, excel, powerpoint, PDF, and JPEG. Additionally, printing in these formats will use the default settings, therefore some custom printing options are not available by default (printing specific pages, multiple slides per page, etc.)
Printing from an Emmanuel computer has no such limitations. This print method is the same as previously provided in the Library Reference area and Computer Lab. Students who want more control with a specific print should visit an Emmanuel computer station, such as in the dorm lobbies or Library.
13. I printed using the color queue, but when I go to the print device I don't see my print job. What do I do?
When printing a document to the color queues, you will only be able to view/print from a color print device. See our list of locations on the "Device Locations" tab or reference the instructions near your local print device for the nearest color device.
14. How do I submit a service call?
Please contact the IT Helpdesk either by phone or email to submit a support request.
15. What data does IT collect about printing and how is it being used?
With EC Print, Emmanuel College Information Technology is able to monitor print volume across users and devices to ensure that the print system is working properly. IT does not collect any information regarding the contents of documents submitted, only the cost associated with printing the document.
1. How do I use the EC Print system?
The two steps to printing are to upload/print your document then release your print at any print device. You can upload your document by either simply using the normal "Print" functionally of the Emmanuel computer provided to you or by using Web Print on the EC Print site. For a video tutorial on using the Web Print, click here. With this system, the uploaded document is not sent to a specific print devices but instead stored in our print system. The user would then visit any print location on campus to complete the print by tapping their ID and selecting the associated print listing (see instructions for using our devices in the "Tutorials and Guides" tab). This provides many benefits, including the ability to print from adjunct personal laptops using Web Print, protection from a printer out of toner/paper, ability to avoid busy print locations, and paper savings for prints with errors.
2. What functionality is provided by our print devices?
All devices are able to scan and copy as well as print. Since users print to a personalized queue instead of a specific printer, users can release any document held in their personal print queue from any print device on campus. Additionally, all of the devices are multifunctional devices and are extremely efficient in conserving energy and toner.
3. Where are the print devices located?
Each Faculty and Staff member will have access to all printers on campus. Your department or area will be equipped with a print device for your primary usage, but other devices may have different functionality for occasional use. For a detailed list devices and where they are located, see the "Locations" tab.
4. I used the Copy Center for certain print projects in the past. Is the Copy Center still available?
Given the lower cost of our EC Print print services, we highly recommend the use of EC Print devices instead of your basic Copy Center needs. Although ECPrint devices provide many of the print needs once done by the Copy Center, there are other services provided or unique scenarios in which the Copy Center can still be helpful. The use of the Copy Center is contingent on budget approval. The copy center is not a service provided by the IT department.
5. If I don't have my ID with me, can I still use the new print devices?
Yes. Although tapping your ID is the most convenient method of accessing the devices, you can also manually enter your Emmanuel username and password on the touch panel.
6. I am concerned that other users will be able to read/take my printed documents before I get to them. Should I be concerned?
No. Because the system is based on released jobs from a personal queue, the device will not print the job until you authenticate your identity at the device and release it.
7. Is there color printing available?
Yes. There are a variety of color printing devices on campus for all users. Locations include the Library, Administration Building, Wilken's Science Center, and more. (see "Device Locations" tab)
8. What is Web Print and is that the only way to print?
Web Print is the web-based tool for users to see their current print usage, print history, and upload documents to be printed from any computer. To access Web Print, click on the "EC Print" on the MySaints Portal Applications list or go to http://ECPrint.emmanuel.edu. For specific instructions and more details, go to the "Tutorials and Guides" tab.
No, Web Print is not the only way to print. Users can still print from their Emmanuel provided computer or any public computers offered by Emmanuel IT, but would release their print jobs in the same fashion as printing from Web Print.
9. What are the limitations between using Web Print and printing from an Emmanuel computer?
Although Web Print is convenient, it does have limitations. When printing using Web Print, only certain file types can be printed. These file types are word, excel, powerpoint, and PDF. Additionally, printing in these formats will use the default settings, therefore some custom printing options are not available by default (printing specific pages, multiple slides per page, etc.). There are ways to achieve some custom printing by saving items as PDF's and adjusting the PDF settings. For tutorials on different custom printing options, see the "Tutorials and Guides" tab.
In comparison, printing from an Emmanuel computer has no such limitations. This print method is the same as previously provided in the Library Reference area and Computer Lab. Students or employees who want more control with a specific print should visit an Emmanuel computer station, such as in the dorm lobbies or Library, or use their Emmanuel provided computer.
10. Is there a print/copy quota for users?
Staff and Faculty have no print/copy quota or limit. Staff and Faculty print/copy usage will be monitored (in terms of volume, not document specifics) and shared with Faculty/Staff Administration as deemed necessary to ensure proper use, fiscal responsibility, and environmental responsibility.
Students do have a print/copy quota. See the "Student FAQ" tab to learn more.
11. Who provides toner/paper for devices? Who provides service?
IT provides paper and toner for all public devices listed in the "Public Print Devices Locations and Features" list on the EC Print information site. For any device outside of this list, paper (purchase and installation) and toner (installation) is the responsibility of the Staff or Faculty department in the print area. New toner for these devices is automatically shipped to the associated department once the toner level reaches 10%.
12. How do I submit a service call?
Please contact the IT Helpdesk either by phone or email to submit a support request. All vendors used prior to the new print system (ex. Page After Page, A-Cal) are no longer in use by the college and should not be contacted.
13. What data does IT collect about printing and how is it being used?
With EC Print, IT is able to monitor print volume across devices to ensure that all devices are working within their limitations. In addition, we are able to measure environmental impact of devices and users. IT does not collect any information regarding the contents of documents submitted, only the cost associated with printing the document. By using a cost per page model, we are able to quantify usage and impact across campus to better understand and fulfill the needs of the college as a whole.
14. What is the student quota and when is it reset?
See the "Student FAQ" tab for this information.
15. Does scanning or faxing have a cost?
No. Scanning and faxing are free services. The only services that have costs associated to the college are printing and copying. Scanning and faxing do not charge to a student quota.
16. Can I print double sided and why would I want to?
Yes. All print devices have the ability to print double sided. Double sided printing is highly encouraged by the college to reduce waste of paper and decrease environmental impact. Students who print double sided receive a 15% discount per page. Any print job that exceeds 9 pages will be prompted for duplex printing.
17. I printed something, but don't need it anymore. What should I do?
Prints that are not released are deleted from your queue after 24 hours, so you don't have to do anything. You could also go to a print device and choose to "Cancel" a print from your queue. Students are not charged for these prints, as only prints that are released from a print device incur a charge.
18. How can I save Emmanuel money on printing/copying?
Here are some tips on how to minimize your environmental impact:
Release only the documents you need
Proof-read your work before printing
Select double-sided printing whenever possible
Print PowerPoint presentation as handouts, selecting to print 6 slides per page
19. Can I print from off-campus?
Yes - ECPrint is available for uploading documents at anytime, anywhere.
20. I printed using the color queue, but when I go to the print device I don't see my print job. What do I do?
When printing a document to the color queues, you will only be able to view/print from a color print device. See our list of locations on the EC Print Information site or reference the instructions near your local print device for the nearest color device.
Public Technology
Emmanuel Information Technology provides public and classroom computers for community use. This includes three computer classrooms, a technology-equipped Library Reference Area, public computers in the Jean Yawkey Student Center, and all academic and residential spaces.
From these locations, users can access basic software and print to any EC Print device. Please note that any files saved or changes made to these devices will be lost upon restart.
Public computers can be used at any time according to building and room schedules. To request a computer classroom, contact the Registrar's Office at registrar [at] emmanuel.edu or 617-735-9960.
Individual Computers
All full-time faculty and staff are provided a laptop computer with standard specifications and configuration, which is replaced on a four-year cycle. Our standard laptop is a 14” HP laptop running Windows 10, configured with enterprise-grade security software, as well as popular internet browsers and Microsoft 365 software for your convenience.
Requests for non-standard configurations are granted only on a case-by-case basis for individuals with valid business justification by the Director of IT Operations.
Emmanuel College is fully Mac and PC-compatible. Students must have their own laptop in order to be able to complete their coursework, which often uses online tools. Some academic programs (such as STEM-oriented programs) require particular hardware or software configurations.
Students may borrow laptops for short-term usage from the Discovery Lab, located on the first floor of the Cardinal Cushing Library building.
Repair
The IT Helpdesk offers complete repair and replacement services on Emmanuel-issued laptops for staff and faculty when it is deemed necessary following diagnostics from Helpdesk staff. To request a repair, maintenance, or replacement, contact the IT Helpdesk at (617) 735-9966 or helpdesk [at] emmanuel.edu, or visit us in the Eisner Administration Building, room 133.
Limited repair services are available for students. The IT Helpdesk can perform troubleshooting and minor software repairs for students, but cannot perform maintenance, major software repairs, or hardware repairs of any kind on student computers. Student support is limited to diagnosis on a "best effort" nature with advice on third-party repair options.
Student Computers
Emmanuel College recommends that every enrolled full-time and part-time student be equipped with a personal laptop for academic purposes. Individual access to a laptop with up-to-date specs ensures students are equipped to complete their coursework with as little difficulty as possible. Please view our formal recommendation linked here.
