Alternative Spring Break, or ASB, is a week-long, faith based service trip during the March spring break. ASB educates for social justice through community service.

Students and staff travel together, serve others, live in a communal setting and spend their evenings in prayer and reflection. Participants confront issues of hunger, homelessness, extreme poverty, food justice, environmental concerns, rebuilding following a natural disaster and immigration. Past ASB groups traveled to Phoenix, AZ; New Orleans, LA; Houston, TX; and one group stay rooted in the City of Boston and Western MA for the week.

Students interested in participating in ASB must apply and be accepted during the fall semester.

"An amazing experience! I didn’t know how much of an impact it would make on my life until I went. The amount I learned about others and myself was incredible."

"ASB has given me many eye-opening experiences and being able to witness these experiences with the Emmanuel College community is nothing short of amazing. It's a great way to make friends and it's a super interactive way to spend your spring break!"

"ASB has been my absolute favorite experience here at Emmanuel. Being able to surround myself with people who have nothing but goodness in their heart is so inspiring and fulfilling. Being able to experience an entirely new demographic and community across the country is so eye opening to the idea of not taking things for granted. I have personally met some of my closest friends on this trip and I even discovered a new humility within myself that I didn't notice before, and for that I am so grateful."

"ASB was a trip that taught me invaluable lessons about empathy, teamwork, and the power of giving back. One of the most profound takeaways was learning to connect with people from diverse backgrounds, as well as people who have been in the same community as me. Whether we were feeding people, interacting with guests, or distributing resources, I saw firsthand how listening and understanding others' needs can make a tangible difference. This experience broke down preconceived notions and taught me that compassion transcends language and culture."
